One year after announcing its acquisition of B&R (Bernecker + Rainer Industrie-Elektronik GmbH), ABB is to invest €100 million in Austria to build a state-of-the-art innovation and training campus at the home of B&R in Eggelsberg, Upper Austria.

The new software component mapp IO simplifies the task of managing variants of machinery and equipment. mapp IO lets you add I/O modules to your machine at runtime.

B&R has published a new major release of its APROL process control system. APROL R 4.2 contains numerous new functions, including improved cloud communication via OPC UA and MQTT.

In a meeting held at the headquarters of Austrian automation specialist B&R, the EUROMAP 84 working group specified a new set of definitions for communication between extrusion lines and MES systems based on the open OPC UA standard.
