Ongoing optimization
Many of us appreciate the information and reminders that fitness tracking technology offers us. Smartphones and smartwatches record data such as pulse, breathing, steps and altitude. This data is used by complex algorithms and cloud-based applications to provide personalized training and lifestyle recommendations.
The same applies to modern industrial machines: Sensors record parameters such as vibration, torque, temperature and much more. This data can be analyzed on site to identify trends and optimize the system's performance. It can be integrated into ERP and SCADA systems to optimize supply chain management. It can also be used in cloud-based IIoT solutions for real-time monitoring to implement predictive maintenance and optimize components, machines and entire fleets.
B&R offers comprehensive hardware and software solutions as well as expertise in the automation and digitalization of machines and systems.
Secure data collection
Advanced IIoT services require seamless communication within and between machines and systems. OPC UA and TSN offer an end-to-end solution from the sensor to the cloud with state-of-the-art security. From an OPC UA FX compatible bus controller and PLC generation to a TSN switch and integrated development support in Automation Studio, B&R's IIoT solutions are built around a powerful portfolio and designed to be easily integrated into third-party systems. This offers the user the greatest possible flexibility.
Easy access to data
The IIoT Connector app enables easy and configurable data sharing between machines and IT systems. Similar to a fitness tracker, users can choose which machine data they want to share and with whom. Certain data can be used in on-site systems such as ERP and SCADA or cloud-based IIoT solutions to make processes more efficient. Other data can be shared with the machine builder or B&R to enable improvements to machines and automation components. In any scenario, B&R's open approach ensures that it makes no difference which hardware is used or what type of container-based platform the applications run on.
Maintenance optimization
Creating digital value for data analytics - B&R apps enable machine builders remote access to high-resolution machine data that can be used for comprehensive analysis, often with AI-driven insights into topics such as mechanical alignment and wheel maintenance. Deviations in data trends detected by AI algorithms can trigger alerts and prompt additional on-site investigation. The data can also provide information about the timing and accuracy of maintenance procedures and potentially alert machine builders to improper maintenance practices.
Industrial IoT solutions for the automation industry
Converting data into information
The B&R Edge solution is to the machine what the smartwatch is to the athlete. The tracking app is replaced by the B&R IIoT Connector, which provides access to local and cloud-based dashboards, functions and services. B&R's portfolio provides machine builders and users with the tools they need to build their IIoT ecosystem, monitor the health of their machines and keep their fleet running at peak performance. Fitness tracking transforms pulse, steps and altitude into personalized training and lifestyle recommendations - the B&R IIoT ecosystem transforms vibration, torque and temperature into optimized performance and extended service life.
Scalable edge portfolio
B&R systems offer fully integrated solutions for connecting to any cloud service provider. Process data acquisition, improved lifecycle management, predictive maintenance and even long-term archiving can be implemented with B&R solutions - even without a permanent connection to the Internet. Machines and systems are networked with X20 I/O modules, an X20 CPU module and an industrial PC. The X20 module collects the data, the CPU module handles the applications for normal operation and the industrial PC is able to temporarily store the data when there is no Internet connection. As soon as the connection is re-established, the industrial PC - serving as an Edge Controller - sends the data to the cloud. A detailed overview of machine and system performance can then be accessed from anywhere in the world.
Process data acquisition and business intelligence
Systematic acquisition of raw data directly from the production level in real time is essential to ensure the efficiency and quality of modern manufacturing processes. B&R solutions offer seamless acquisition of operating and process data from machines and systems. Relevant information is identified in the unsorted raw data and then presented as diagrams and tables. This enables users to quickly identify important key figures and make proper decisions to optimize production processes.
