Introduction: First steps with machine vision [SOC1610.1]

You will get an overview of machine vision, including the basics, vision functions, and configuration in Automation Studio and the HMI application.
Using a fill level application as an example, you will learn how a camera placed in front of bottles on a track system can check if the fill level and labelling information are correct.

Module 1:

Introduction and first steps with machine vision

Introduction and first steps with machine vision

Description

The course starts with an introduction to machine vision, covering the basics of optics and B&R hardware topology options. It then guides you through setting up the vision application and implementing and configuring vision functions.
Since image acquisition is not covered in this course, sample images to use when working with the vision functions are provided.

Content:

  • Introduction to machine vision
  • Basics about optics
  • B&R hardware topology options
  • B&R machine vision functions
  • Setting up the vision application
  • Implementing and configuring vision functions

Target group

Advanced Automation Studio users who are interested in configuring vision functions and commissioning a camera in a machine application

Requirements

Topic duration

About 4 hours

Hardware used

The vision application can be tested without the need of a camera. The course will provide you with photos.

The online course is based on following hardware:

  • PLC X20CP1686X
  • Smart Camera VSS112R12.033P-000

Software used

  • Automation Studio version 4.12
  • mapp Technology >= 5.24

Module 2:

Configuration and use of alignment

Configuration and use of alignment

Description

The course starts with an explanation of what alignment is and its functional principle. It then guides you through configuring the alignment source and connecting the alignment receiver, followed by conducting tests with the offline HMI.

Content:

  • What is alignment?
  • Functional principle of alignment
  • Configuring alignment source
  • Connecting alignment receiver
  • Tests with offline HMI

Target group

Experienced Automation Studio users who are interested in the intelligent configuration of two or more interacting vision functions

Requirements

  • Automation Studio and mapp Technology packages (mapp Vision and mapp View) are installed
  • Machine vision basics (areas of application of the vision functions, difference between Smart Sensor and Smart Camera, operation of the offline HMI)
